How do you calculate a TB-500 dose?

Reconstituting a 5 mg vial of TB-500 with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water gives a concentration of 2500 mcg/mL. At that concentration a 2500 mcg dose is 1.000 mL, which is 100.0 units on a U-100 insulin syringe, and one vial yields 2 doses of that size. Method

How the arithmetic works.

  1. conc = 5 mg ÷ 2 mL = 2500 mcg/mL
  2. vol = 2500mcg ÷ 2500 = 1.000 mL
  3. units = 1.000 mL × 100 = 100.0 U

A U-100 syringe is graduated so that 100 units equals 1 mL, which is why the volume in millilitres is multiplied by 100 to get the mark to draw to.

Where this falls short
